Communication
Home-School Communication
Our goal is to create a partnership with every family to support all students academically, socially, and emotionally. Below are various methods of communication. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
General Communication
Parent and teacher communication is encouraged and can be made through personal contact, phone calls, emails, or notes. If you need to speak with your child's teacher at a time of the year in addition to Parent/Teacher Conferences, please follow the process listed below so we can ensure our full attention.
Process:
- Parent/guardian(s) are encouraged to call or email the teacher or staff member directly to set up a meeting.
- The staff member will contact parents/guardians and set up a time to meet. The staff member will also assist in inviting any other staff members that need to be involved in the discussion. In this manner, we will be able to ensure that those affected by the resolution of the situation can participate.
- Appointments will be scheduled if further meetings are recommended to resolve the issue.
Notes Home
Many times throughout the year, parents will receive correspondence form the school, typically in the Wednesday Folder. Please take time each week to read the information included in the Wednesday Folder. Upon occasion, it is necessary to respond to and return notes to the school. Please help your student remember to return the notes, and please call with any questions.

Classroom Celebrations
As an overarching concept, please be aware of students whose religious beliefs do not allow them to celebrate holidays or involve celebration of varied holidays. As a reminder, all treats brought to school for students must be store bought due to health restrictions. Our goal is to have healthy parties so please help us by following the District 6 School Wellness Policy (Policy ADF).
-
Grades K-5: Three classroom celebrations will be scheduled: Fall, Winter and Valentine’s Day.
-
In addition, grades K-5 also celebrate birthdays on the first Friday of each month. All students with birthdays that fall within that month will be celebrated on that one day. If the first Friday is a non-contact day, celebrations will occur on Thursday (March and May). See schedule below:

ALL Grades: All grades will participate in end of semester classroom celebrations in December and May to honor the Family Values.
Field Trips
As stated in the Board of Education Policy IJOA, field trips are student excursions and/or experiences for the purpose of gaining firsthand knowledge away from the classroom. The teacher shall provide the parents with information concerning the purpose and destination of the trip, transportation and eating arrangements, date and time of departure, and the estimated time of return. A parental permission slip shall be required for each student participating in the trip, including walking excursions. One or more adults (school personnel and/or parents) may accompany the class on the field trip. Parents wishing to attend the field trip will be identified by a predetermined process, and teachers are responsible for informing accompanying adults of their duties and responsibilities. Parents may need to provide their own transportation and pay their own way.
The teacher shall review acceptable standards of conduct with the students in advance of the trip. The teacher has primary responsibility for the conduct of the students. Students who cannot be self-controlled or teacher-controlled may be excluded from field trips.
Homework
Parents have a responsibility to make sure children have a set place and time to do homework. A consistent time should be chosen that works for the family, for example: before going out to play or after dinner. It is also good to identify a quiet place to sit and concentrate, and establish a daily routine that includes homework. Homework should be put in their backpack when it is completed.
Teachers use homework as a gauge that tells them if students understood the concepts that were taught. Students have the responsibility to know how to complete their homework on their own. If they have any questions, they should be asking the teacher. Sometimes, depending on the children’s age, they may need an adult to help them approach the teacher the first time.
Lost and Found
Food and Drink Policy
Unless given permission by a teacher, students should not have food in class. All food or drink needs to be finished before school or at lunch. Sharing of food is not permitted because of germs that can be quickly spread. Students may keep a bottle of water with them during the day, but it must stay in a designated area away from technology. The first time food and drink becomes an issue you will warn and re-teach. The second time food or drink is an issue, the item will be confiscated and saved until the end of the day (drinks will be disposed of). The third time the food/drink is an issue, there will be a family conversation to determine support.
